Usman Shinwari retires from international cricket at the age of 31, officially bringing an end to his Pakistan career. The 31-year-old confirmed his decision on September 9, 2025, bringing the curtain down on a career that showed flashes of brilliance but was often interrupted by injuries.
A Career of Short but Sharp Spells
Shinwari made his international debut in 2013 and went on to represent Pakistan in 17 ODIs, 16 T20Is, and a lone Test match. He picked up 34 wickets in ODIs and 13 in T20Is, with his standout memories being two five-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka.
Known for his genuine pace, Shinwari’s speed was one of his biggest strengths. During his stint in the Big Bash League (BBL), he even touched 151 km/h — a reminder of the raw firepower that made him stand out among left-arm quicks.
While his wicket-taking ability promised plenty, recurring injuries and fitness struggles meant his international career never quite reached the heights it could have. His last appearance for Pakistan came in 2019.
Domestic Cricket and Beyond
Even though Shinwari has stepped away from the international stage, he is expected to continue playing in domestic competitions and franchise leagues. His presence and experience can still play an important role in guiding young fast bowlers coming through the ranks.
