Kwena Maphaka Ruled Out of Pakistan Tour

Young Pacer Suffers Hamstring Strain

South Africa’s rising fast-bowling star Kwena Maphaka has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan after suffering a hamstring injury during a domestic match.

Medical scans confirmed a Grade 1–2 strain, which will keep the 19-year-old sidelined for about four weeks. The South African management decided not to risk his fitness on an overseas tour, choosing to prioritise his full recovery instead.

Cautious Move from South Africa’s Management

Hamstring injuries are a common hurdle for fast bowlers due to the explosive speed and heavy workload in their deliveries. Given Maphaka’s young age and promising future, the medical team wisely chose a cautious path to protect his long-term career.

Medical staff have advised a four-week recovery plan for Maphaka and will closely monitor his progress. The team’s cautious approach aims to ensure he returns fully fit and ready for future matches without risking any long-term setback.

Replacements Named for the Tour

With Maphaka ruled out, Ottniel Baartman has been added to the T20I squad, and Lizaad Williams joins the ODI team. Both players have strong domestic experience and are expected to strengthen South Africa’s pace attack during the tour.

The tour will include three T20Is from 28 to 31 October and three ODIs from 4 to 8 November 2025. This series also serves as part of South Africa’s preparation for upcoming ICC events.

Looking Ahead

If recovery goes smoothly, Maphaka is expected to return in about a month. The young left-arm pacer has already shown great promise at youth and domestic levels, and this break could help him come back fully fit and stronger, ready to make an impact.
