BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has ended speculation around a possible farewell match for India’s senior cricketers.
He confirmed that the board has not discussed or finalised any such plan, putting an end to days of rumors circulating on social media.
No Truth to the Speculation
Speaking to the media, Shukla clarified that no proposal for a farewell match has come up within the BCCI.
He added that such decisions are only made after official discussions, and so far, the idea hasn’t even been raised at the board level.
How the Rumors Started
The speculation began after unverified reports suggested that Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma could be honored with a farewell game.
Given that both players are in the later stages of their international careers, the possibility gained traction and was widely shared across social media.
However, with no official confirmation from the board, these reports remained nothing more than speculation.
Farewell Matches: Not This Time
Farewell games have happened before in Indian cricket, but this isn’t one of those occasions. Shukla made it clear that unless the board officially takes it up, no such match will be played.
What Lies Ahead
For now, Indian cricket will move forward as usual, with no farewell game on the calendar.
Both Kohli and Rohit remain active members of the squad and are expected to play key roles in upcoming assignments.
If the BCCI ever decides on a farewell match in the future, Shukla assured that the announcement will come directly from the board, not through speculation.
